Whisper

Whisper is a sorceress and a general, a member of the Circle of Eighteen who fights against the Lady and her minions. Whisper is reportedly a powerful wizard, but is far more feared for her matchless strategic ability; she is the best general on either side. Her appearance is that of a rugged and battle-hardened woman in her forties, but her voice is described as extremely attractive, like "the girl of your dreams."
Whisper becomes a target when the Black Company accidentally happens upon her base camp in her absence, where they find a cache of Domination-era documents. The documents apparently contain Soulcatcher's true name, and possibly that of other Taken.
Whisper is caught by Croaker when she secretly meets with the Limper (who is caught by Raven); Croaker shoots her in the head with a special soft arrow provided by Soulcatcher and then subdues the half-conscious sorceress in hand-to-hand combat. The Lady herself then arrives and, after torturing Limper for a bit, makes Whisper the first of the New Taken. The episode surprises Soulcatcher, who did not know that Lady was capable of Taking wizards. As Croaker describes it, during the ritual Whisper is "broken, slain, and brought back to life" as the Lady's slave. Whisper's voice shows a "craven desire to please" by the end.
However, while Whisper quickly becomes the lead Imperial general, she is not above scheming for revenge against the Black Company. In Juniper, the Company realizes that Whisper intends to betray them, and they leave the service of the Lady, joining the White Rose. In the following years, Whisper remains a major threat. Lady never quite trusts her, but then she doesn't trust many of the Taken.
She appears throughout the rest of the series up through the release of the Dominator. When the Lady's power is shattered, the power of all Lady's Taken is shattered as well. Initially it is believed that all these Taken perished soon after, but Whisper apparently survives, though nothing more is heard of her after the Company heads south.
