Westman Block

Officer of the Watch, the Tunfaire militia which evolves into a significant police force by the end of the series. Block is described as unimposing, a small, thin character with short brown hair graying around the edges. In Red Iron Nights he hires Garrett to help catch a serial killer. The success of these efforts earn Block the favor of powerful nobles on the Hill, eventually handing him the reins of the Watch. Initially Garrett considers him somewhat competent, though subject to bribery like most civil servants; as the Watch grows in power, Block becomes more assertive in his mission and eschews the bribes.

In Red Iron Nights, Block holds the rank of Captain. By Deadly Quicksilver Lies, he has been promoted to Colonel.
