Toadkiller Dog is a demon originally summoned by Soulcatcher during the Domination. His form is somewhat protean, though he is "most comfortable" as a ferocious quadruped half as big as an elephant. He cannot speak, but can mentally communicate with his companion demon Tracker and some of the Taken (e.g. the Limper). Toadkiller Dog is a formidable opponent: in one fight, he kills a hundred armed and armored Imperial soldiers and twenty hounds in a matter of minutes. Also he is revealed as quite intelligent and pragmatic, and likely was the brains of the duo.

History

Toadkiller Dog and Tracker were trapped in the Barrowland by the original White Rose. They were freed when Raven, an inexperienced wizard, entered the maze and Toadkiller Dog and Tracker were able to imprison Raven's spirit in their place, preserving the balance of the spells. Toadkiller Dog assumed the form of a regular dog, and Tracker that of a normal human, and the two infiltrated the Rebels, secretly working for the Dominator.

The deception is unveiled when Old Father Tree reveals the disguises, and Toadkiller Dog escapes, fleeing a barrage of major sorcery. He secretly rounds up the local tribes near the Barrowland to attack the Lady's forces as she attempts to release and destroy the Dominator. In the battle, Toadkiller Dog is grievously wounded by the Taken, but escapes.

He returns, much later, to retrieve the Limper's lost head. Toadkiller Dog seems to have his own agenda, and thinks that helping the Limper will achieve it - possibly freeing the Silver Spike. He helps the Limper coerce others into building him a new body, but realizes along the way that Limper is simply mad. Limper betrays Toadkiller Dog in the ruins of the Temple of Travelers Repose, leaving the demon buried with the wizards who had created his new body. Following this, Toadkiller Dog journeys to Charm where he puts himself at the service of the bureaucrats who have become the new masters of the Northern Empire, who meet his approval. Leading a force of like-minded monsters, Toadkiller Dog pursued Limper back to Oar, where he was ripped to bits fighting the Limper by a windwhale.
