Talk:Dominator

Raft is innocent, I say! HE never destroyed HIS home province.

Consider this quote from "The White Rose."

"Erin NoFather," she read aloud. "An unlanded priest of the god Vancer, from Slinger, in the kingdom of Vye. This, from out amateur historian. What you have found is less interesting than the fact that you found it. Croaker. That news is five hundred years old. It was worthless then. Whoever Erin NoFather was before he left Vye, he did an absolute job of eliminating traces. By the time he became interesting enough to have his antecedents investigated, he had obliterated not only Slinger but every person to have lived in that village in his lifetime. In later years he went even further, wasting all of Vye. Which is why the notion that those papers might contain his true name constituted such a surprise."

That's Lady talking. The person in question is, of course, the Dominator. It was Erin NoFather who was suspected of being the Dominator, and it was Erin NoFather who destroyed his home province.

Raft WAS Dorotea's husband, but in the books he is never suspected of being the Dominator. The likely explanation is that Dorotea ditched Raft before stealing Ardath's identity, and THEN married Erin NoFather. Also note that Ardath and Erin NoFather were "murdered by bandits" just months before the Dominator proclaimed himself... thus further implicating them as Lady and the Dominator.

(Phew. Just had to get that out there. Yes, I am obsessed with the Black Company, but no I am not so obsessed that I can quote the series from memory. I do my fact checking with the "Inside the Book" feature at Amazon.com)

You're right

Upon reflection, I think you're right. Dorotea must have assumed Ardath's identity very early on. That means that Dorotea was married twice without consummating the union... wonder what happened to Raft?

Knowing Lady...

She probably bumped him off before taking Ardath's place.

And she probably killed Baron Kaden, Ardath's first husband, too. In any case it seems unlikely that was a love match... unless it was the *real* Ardath that Kaden had been married to.

Incidently, I've been greatly enjoying watching this wiki grow.

Keep up the fine work!
