Roses

Roses is a free city-state in the Northern Empire, located to the west of the Forest of Cloud, near of the kingdom of Forsberg, and north of the Salient. Roses has been free throughout history, a republican plutocracy. The Lady wisely allows Roses its sovereignty, making it a more staunchly Imperial ally than most of the cities actually controlled by the Empire. It has many canals and arched bridges, and does not show the signs of decay and decline that so many other cities do. Its walls are made with a characteristic reddish stone. Three rivers run through the city (hence the canals).

Roses is the city where the Black Company sets a fatal trap for Raker, a member of the Circle of Eighteen.

The city is briefly captured by the Rebels during the northern campaigns leading up to the Battle of Charm, but is freed after the Lady's victory. It is severely damaged during the Limper's rampage.
