Otto
From Glen Cook Wiki
Otto is a professional soldier in the Black Company, one of the very few members who survives nearly the entire series. Croaker describes him as a man of "no particular color." However, he is often sent out to get supplies when small detachments of the Company are sent somewhere undercover, suggesting he may be good at scrounging items. He is originally from Rebosa, a city to the south of Beryl. Like his buddy Hagop, he seems to get wounded in every major engagement, but always survives. Otto and Hagop die of age-related causes in the Land of Unknown Shadows within days of each other.
He played an important role in the death of Raker in Roses. He and Hagop were out drinking when Raker, for unknown reasons, blew his cover and stabbed Otto. Hagop ran back to the Company's apartment, where he told Croaker and Raven what happened. They proceeded to track Raker through the city and kill him.
He and Hagop unexpectedly end up senior members of the company after the defeat of the Dominator. As such, they have an increased role in the fourth chronicle, but fade back into pseudo-obscurity by the time of the fifth. In an odd twist of fate, they actually end of in charge of forming the cavalry division of the first army raised in the South to fight the Shadowmasters.
