Khatovar

The fabled point of origin for the Free Companies. Khatovar is one of the worlds accessible off the Glittering Plain; it is physically identical to all the others except that it has scores of small moons instead of one large moon. The name Khatovar means "Khadi's Gate." Centuries ago, the land (actually, a city named Khatovar in this land) where Kina's worship was strong sent out the Free Companies to explore suitable worlds for sacrifice to bring on the Year of Skulls.

Khatovar (the city) has been destroyed centuries ago, and Kina's cult wiped out; there is no one left from the culture that sent forth the Companies. The current rulers of Khatovar are a sprawling, brawling, turbulent clan of wizards known as the Voroshk.

The Voroshk are hostile to the Company and arrogant, inadvertently destroying their Shadowgate in an attempt to attack the Company. As a result, nearly all the killer Shadows from the Glittering Plain spill into Khatovar, initiating an apocalyptic era of horror. However, the Voroshk are numerous enough and powerful enough that they are able to resist to an extent.
