Humans

Humans are just one of many humanoid races in the Garrett series, but they are increasingly becoming the dominant race thanks to an unparalleled devotion to military conquest. Most of the characters who demonstrate magical abilities seem to be human as well, especially the major sorcerers, though there's evidence that other races can produce magically skilled people. TunFaire is part of the human kingdom of Karenta, but thrives largely as a melting pot.

Humans are reasonably tolerant of other races in these books, or at least no more intolerant than other races (the Tolkienesque clichéd animosity between Elves and Dwarves is in force here). Crosses between humans and other races are common. After the war in the Cantard ends, however, some humans form racist movements to drive the non-humans out of town, such as the Call.

Garrett is human, of course.
