Daughter of Night
From Glen Cook Wiki
Daughter of Croaker and the Lady, marked before birth by the demon goddess Kina as the messiah who will enable Kina to return to the world and bring about the apocalyptic Year of the Skulls. She has no name but "Daughter of Night," though Croaker and Lady nickname her Booboo when speaking of her. (Croaker wanted to name her "Ghana" after his grandmother.) She is a stunningly gorgeous woman, about five and a half feet tall, with black hair, strikingly pale skin, and pale blue eyes; she greatly resembles a younger Lady. She radiates a dread darkness though - her eyes are very disturbing. She has substantial magical talent, but is completely untrained and hence not very good at using it. Her most powerful weapon, developed late in her life, is the ability to cause everyone within a range of 100 feet become instantly and totally devoted to her (the "love-me" effect).
History
Booboo is born in Taglios, and immediately abducted by Narayan Singh, who raises her as the messiah of the Deceivers. She begins her mission to bring Kina back by writing the Books of the Dead as early as age 4, when she also begins manifesting the ability to project her "ka" and ghostwalk. She spends a frustrating life on the run, trying time and again to complete the ritual necessary to free Kina. Captured repeatedly, she nevertheless manages to elude her parents for 25 years, first with the aid of Narayan and later with the help of Khadidas, the possessed wizard Goblin. When Kina is destroyed, she feels utterly lost. She is overwhelmed at meeting her birth mother - who is in turn an emotional wreck. The Daughter tries to strangle Lady as a last act of faith in Kina; Croaker chooses to save Lady, stabbing his daughter repeatedly to force her to release the strangling cloth. It is a tragic ending to a sad life, and a very painful event for Croaker and Lady.
