Multi-Language Bits gone

Well, popular consensus (and my own gut feeling) turned out to be against the non-English wikis. I don't mind; in fact it's a great deal easier to work with a single-language wiki - I can't understand how those guys at Wikipedia maintain that thing they're running. All language-specific subdomains now point to www.glencook.org, please update your bookmarks & links (although they will continue to work, it helps traffic analysis). Now that I've got things running on a single image, I can run a much-needed, long-delayed software upgrade - sometime this weekend. Wish me luck! Guru Buckaroo 16:29, 26 April 2007 (CDT)

WHOOPS

Sorry for the outage, everyone - had a minor meltdown on the server, took a while to bring everything back to life. Don't worry, though, the site isn't going anywhere. That being said, I am strongly considering removing the multi-language versions - ie, getting rid of the non-English versions of this site. They have pitifully low article counts, and having the Wiki in this configuration makes it incredibly difficult to upgrade. If you have an opinion on the subject, please feel free to leave it on my talk page.

Glen Cook Interview coming in early October

The first weekend in October, I will be attending the Archon Science Fiction Convention near St. Louis, Missouri. At this convention, I will be hosting an Interview session with Glen Cook. If you would like to submit questions to be asked, please use this page.

The Interview is done! I'll be transcribing it and transcoding it (it's stuck on analog medium right now) over the next week, and have it posted as soon as possible. Unfortunately, due to scheduling problems, it didn't turn out to be a public session - just myself and Mr. Cook, so it's shorter than I would have liked; however, I still got some interesting answers out of him. The Interview is posted. I'm trying to upload the Audio track now, but the video will have to wait - none of my freinds or family were thoughful enough to have a video capture card they could loan me the use of. If you have the equipment to turn a Hi8 video tape into an uncompressed AVI (so that I can crop & compress it best), I would very much like to hear from you. In unrelated news, I will be performing a major software upgrade over this weekend, resulting in some downtime for this site, mostly after 7pm CDT Saturday. With a little luck, you should see an increase in the responsiveness of this site next week! Guru Buckaroo 02:04, 9 September 2006 (CDT)

Maintenance complete. I've updated to MediaWiki 1.7.1, new PHP, new Apache, and new MySQL. We're on the bleeding edge now, folks. On a related note, I will be changing the setup of the Glen Cook Wiki Family (the multiple-language versions) to use a 'commons'-type image server - basically, a separate namespace for images that can be accessed by all of the language-specific sites. More on that later. Guru Buckaroo 22:49, 9 September 2006 (CDT)

Five Languages Available

As you may have seen on the main page, we now have available English, French, German, Polish, and Russian versions of the Wiki. Unfortunately, they're pretty much empty, as the only non-computer languages I speak are English and American English. Any help translating pages would be very much appreciated. Currently, the French and German versions have a template named {{babelfish}} that marks pages as machine-translated by Altavista's BabelFish - however, those translations are - let's just say inaccurate and leave it at that. Good News, Everybody.

I'm happy to announce that I've gotten permission from Glen Cook to use the glencook.org domain name. As of now, the site is currently available at glencook.org. Please update your bookmarks to reflect this change. In addition, I am preparing to open the multi-language portions of this site - hopefully, before the end of the week. The first languages available will be those from whom we get the most hits - German, Polish, French, and Russian. I will be putting out a call for translators when these sites are available to edit. Initially, the pages will either be blank, or in English - I haven't decided which would be better, and welcome comments on the talk page of this article. Guru Buckaroo 00:09, 1 May 2006 (CDT)
